Reading: Story- Feel the Wind
Skills: distinguish between stories that provide information and tell stories, make real life connections to the word powerful and soar, identify main topic and details, and gather evidence from different sources. Grammar: Singular and plural nouns Writing: Writing informative paragraphs using multiple sources Spelling: Students will learn segmenting and blending up to 5 sounds, suffixes s, ed, and ing, and vowel team sounds for oa, oe, ow, ou, oo, ue, ew, au, and aw. We will be studying these words for 3 weeks. Lesson 4: Write and interpret two-digit numbers as addition sentences that combine tens and ones. Lesson 5: Identify 10 more, 10 less, 1 more, and 1 less than a two digit number. Lesson 6: Use dimes and pennies as representations of tens and ones. Lesson 7: Compare two quantities, and identify the greater or lesser of the two given numbers. Science: Seasons, water cycle, and planets Social Studies: This week we will discuss George Washington Carver for Black History Month. Reading-This week we will be reviewing all the stories we have read in Module 2 to prepare for the end of module task. Students will make an animal trading card that includes an informative paragraph about an animal's unique features. We review skills taught with this module as well as vocabulary. Students will take a direct vocabulary assessment on Monday or Tuesday.
Spelling- We will continue working with closed vs. open syllable words. There will be a spelling test on Friday, Jan. 27. Sample words: held, wilt, smog, flash, stop, grass, cliffs, dress, steps, drums, clicks, camps, champs, belts, went Trick words: see between each Grammar: We will review prepositions and prepositional phrases. Writing: Informative paragraphs and making a trading card. Math: Module 3 lesson 13: Ask and answer varied word problem types about a data set with three categories. ***There will be an end of module test on Tuesday, Jan. 24. We will begin Module 4 lessons 1-3 Lesson 1: Compare the efficiency of counting by ones and counting by tens Lesson 2: Use the place value chart to record and name tens and ones within a two-digit number Lesson 3: Interpret two-digit numbers as either tens and some ones or as all ones Science: Students will compare and describe features of day and night and realize that the sun can only be seen during the day, while the moon can be seen at night and sometimes during the day. Vocabulary words: sun, moon, day, night, rotate, and revolution Social Studies: Identify the correct city, country, Mayor, Governor, and President and explain roles in government. Skills: Use a digital tool to type a sentence on a page that will be added to a book, explain how the author's reasons support the point that "bald eagles are the best," choose evidence from multiple texts for a written opinion piece about favorite animals. Spelling: Students will continuing learning words with blends and diagraphs. There will be a test this Friday. Math: Module 3 Lessons 5-9 Lesson 5: Rename and measure with centimeter cubes, using their standard unit name of centimeters. Lesson 6: Order, measure, and compare the length of objects befiore and after measuring with centimeter cubes, solving compare with difference unknown word problems. Lesson 7: Measure the same objects from Topic B with different non-standard units simultaneously to see the need to measure with a consisten tunit. Lesson 8: Understand the need to use the same units when comparing measurements with others. Lesson 9: Answer compare with difference unknown problems about lengths of two different objects measured in centimeters. Science: Animal classifications Reading: Story: What Do You Do With a Tail Like This? Skills: Generate and answer questions using key details from the text, identify and use an index and a label, identifying the main topic and key details, and order verbs from softest to loudest using an informational passage, identify main topic and retell details, use text features to locate more information. Spelling: Students will learn the difference between a blend and a digraph. We will study these types of words for two weeks. There will be a spelling test on Friday, January 13.
